John Armuth

Post

For those of you who may not have heard the sad news, John Armuth lost his life as a result of a car accident that took place in his home town of Columbus, Indiana on this past Friday morning, March 11th. He was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from the accident scene and passed away there shortly after 5 PM the same day. He was 59 years old.

John was involved for many years with the Circle City Volleyball Club and this season was working as the head coach of their 12 Purple team and the assistant coach of their 18 Black team. He was a well-known member of the local and national volleyball community and a long-standing member and appointed director of the Hoosier Region. He served as a representative to the Junior Assembly USA Volleyball Administrative Council, was a Junior Assembly Arbitrator and just recently had become certified as an IMPACT clinician.

Doug Beal, CEO of USA Volleyball, said this of John in an e mail to the USAV leadership this past weekend: ”John had recently spent a couple days in Colorado Springs helping to revise and update the Junior Assembly Admin Manual—-he gave so freely and willingly of his time and was a calm and reasoned voice within USAV Junior Governance.  Too often tragedy strikes suddenly and unexpectedly, we have surely experienced such this day. We have all lost a very good man.”

Visitation for John Armuth will be held in Columbus, Indiana on Tuesday, March 15th, with services scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th. Here is a link to the arrangements and his obituary:

There is an inspirational saying that has always been one of my favorites:

“Many things in life catch your eye, but very few things capture your heart. Pursue those.”

I think John really got that. He dedicated his life to being a positive influence in young people’s lives as a teacher and a coach. He loved to travel and document what he saw everywhere with photography. He followed his great love for our game of volleyball which in turn brought him into many of our lives. He spent his life pursuing his passions, a life very well lived. Our thoughts and prayers go out to John’s family and friends.
